The CG 40300 at Coast Guard Station Plum Island. In 1938 the Coast Guard was looking to replace the TRS 36 foot wooden marine life boat.
The 36 foot life boats were constructed using high grade straight grained oak which was becoming hard to find. The CG 40300's life began at the Coast Guard yard at Curtis Bay, Maryland, when design work on this new all steel 40 foot life boat began. For more info on this historic boat, visit CG40300.com
